The Student Emergency Fund has been critical to students during the ongoing pandemic. This fund was created to help students for life situations that may derail their education. Over the past several months, this fund has helped an unprecedented number of students with their most basic needs including housing, utilities, food and more.
Students continue to struggle with job uncertainty and other issues, with need outpacing the available funds. As students resume school in the fall, this fund can help fill the gap to ensure that their most basic needs don’t get in the way of achieving their educational goals.
Gifts made to the Student Emergency Fund will go directly to students in need. Your gift, no matter the size makes a big difference to OU students.
How funds are typically used:
Utilities
Car repairs or emergency transportation
School-related expenses, excluding textbooks
Replacement of essential belongings due to theft or lost in a fire, flood or natural disaster
Safety-related needs (i.e., lock change)
Emergency temporary lodging if you find yourself homeless or in an unsafe situation
Temporary food insecurity
Emergency medical treatment/medication/prescriptions when you do not have the ability to pay and the costs cannot be covered by insurance
Travel expenses to return home in the case of a sudden family death or other emergency

Hello, my name is Aura Cazares. I’m the Assistant Dean of Students here at Oakland University.
One of my favorite things to do here at Oakland is help students reach their academic and professional goals in any way that I can.
We know that our students are resilient, they’re hardworking.
Unfortunately, there are times when unforeseen circumstances threaten their ability to reach those goals.
That is why the student emergency fund plays an important role in helping us get students the help they need when they need it.
Demand for the student emergency fund is ongoing.
That is why your support is vital to helping our students meet their goals when they hit roadblocks along the way.
For ways that you can help us, please go to oakland.edu/giving.
Thank you for helping our students succeed. Read More
